The Gifts of Spring

Posted by Gillian on May 7th, 2007

Spring is full of new beginnings – a time of spontaneous, assertive, creative energy. When well-balanced, we are flexible in mind and body, able to make judgements and decisions, plan and envision the future, and take steps towards our goals.

In Chinese Medicine, the gift of the spring energy is the birth and expression of new ideas and ways of being. This can sometimes show up as anger, like a young shoot, pushing through the asphalt of old habits and stuck places. Appropriate anger is an impetus for change, whereas repressed or inappropriate anger can be destructive.

Out of Balance
When the spring energy is not moving smoothly in us, we may be easily frustrated, irritable, get headaches, have vision issues, lack hope or a sense of the future, be unable to rise to anger even when appropriate, or unable to let go of anger, have weak nails, be unable to judge what is just and right, lack motivation, or have trouble with muscles and tendons and our ability to move spontaneously in the world.

How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture is uniquely adept at helping us move more easily through life. The universal laws of nature govern the human body as well as the world around us. Acupuncture recognizes the wisdom of our bodies and works with nature’s laws to strengthen our ability to heal.
